How targetted ads work

I just bought a top of the line Lenovo computer within the last month. So obviously, I'm in the market for more lenovo thinkpads because thats what I keep seeing in various advertisements that seem targeted towards me. Obviously I thought I would be happy with just the one.. but go figure, I must be in the market for more.
